Your adventure begins at 6:30 AM from our office near Plaza Regocijo, Cusco, where you board a comfortable private tourist vehicle with your group and professional driver. Travelers staying in Ollantaytambo or the Sacred Valley can be picked up from Ollantaytambo Plaza between 8:00 and 8:30 AM — please inform us in advance. The drive from Cusco to Hidroeléctrica takes approximately 6 hours, passing through a spectacular succession of Andean landscapes — high-altitude plains, mountain passes, traditional communities, fertile valleys, and increasingly lush cloud forest as you descend toward the Urubamba River canyon. On arrival at the Hidroeléctrica station, you stop for a delicious included lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, you set off on the beautiful 11-kilometer flat hike from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes alongside the scenic railway tracks. The walk takes about 3 hours through spectacular jungle scenery, with the Urubamba River flowing beside you and towering cloud-forest walls surrounding the canyon. The trail is flat, well-defined, and accessible for most fitness levels. Please note this hiking section is not guided — comprehensive route instructions are provided before departure. On arrival in Aguas Calientes, you check into your comfortable hotel and relax before an included dinner at a local restaurant, where your guide also meets you to go over all the details for the Machu Picchu visit the following morning.

Day 2 begins with an early breakfast at your hotel. To reach Machu Picchu you have two options: hike up (begin around 4:30 AM — a 30-minute flat walk to the Puente Ruinas checkpoint, then about 1 hour climbing roughly 1,700 steps to the main entrance), or take the shuttle bus (about 30 minutes, departing from 5:30 AM, $12 USD one way, not included in the tour price). Your professional bilingual guide waits at the main entrance gate at 6:00 AM. Once inside, you enjoy a comprehensive guided tour of Machu Picchu, with expert historical, architectural, and cultural commentary bringing the legacy of this Inca citadel to life, followed by free time to continue exploring within your assigned circuit. Because the two-night itinerary removes the pressure of a same-day return, this is the ideal day to add an optional mountain hike: Huayna Picchu (the iconic peak above the citadel, steep and limited to 400 visitors daily) or Machu Picchu Mountain (a scenic climb at 3,080 m with sweeping panoramas). Afterward, you return to Aguas Calientes for the second night, with a free afternoon and evening to explore the town, browse the artisan market, visit the famous thermal baths (entry payable on site), or simply relax amid the extraordinary mountain surroundings.

Day 3 begins with a final breakfast at your hotel before checking out and preparing for the return journey to Cusco. At approximately 9:30 AM, you set off on the return 11-kilometer hike from Aguas Calientes back to Hidroeléctrica along the railway tracks — it is essential to arrive by 2:00 PM to board the vehicle. From Hidroeléctrica, boarding is at 2:00 PM with departure at 2:30 PM for the approximately 6-to-7-hour return drive to Cusco, traveling back through the spectacular Andean landscapes of the outbound journey. The route is beautiful and the return drive, while long, is a comfortable and scenic conclusion to an extraordinary three-day adventure. You arrive back in Cusco at approximately 9:00 to 10:00 PM, with a final drop-off at Plaza Regocijo in the heart of the city center — one block from the Plaza de Armas.
