Itinerary
your day, hour by hour
3:45 to 4:15 AM. Your day begins before sunrise with a comfortable hotel pickup in Cusco. A private tourist vehicle will take you on a scenic 1 hour and 45-minute drive through the Andean mountains to the Ollantaytambo train station. If you are staying in the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo, Urubamba, Pisac, or Calca), please contact us in advance via WhatsApp so we can arrange your pickup accordingly.
Departing Ollantaytambo at 6:10 AM (Expedition) or 6:40 AM (Voyager), depending on availability. Our driver will assist you in boarding your train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). The 1.5-hour journey follows the winding Urubamba River through increasingly lush and dramatic Andean landscapes — a spectacular and memorable ride that is itself one of the highlights of the day.
Approximately 7:40 to 8:10 AM. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, your professional bilingual guide will be waiting at the train station with a sign displaying your name. You will receive all the important instructions for your visit and have 20 to 30 minutes of free time to use the restroom, grab a coffee, or pick up any last-minute snacks before heading up to the site.
Approximately 8:15 AM. After regrouping with your guide, you will board the 30-minute bus ride up the winding mountain road to the main entrance of Machu Picchu. Estimated arrival at the site is between 9:00 and 10:00 AM, depending on your train time and the bus queue. The views from the road during this ascent are already spectacular.
9:00 to 10:00 AM entry, 2.5-hour guided visit. Once inside, your guide will lead you through a comprehensive and deeply engaging tour of Machu Picchu, following the circuit assigned to your entrance ticket — walking you through the temples, ceremonial areas, agricultural terraces, royal palaces, and iconic viewpoints of this extraordinary Inca citadel, and bringing its remarkable history, architecture, and spiritual significance to life with expert commentary. After the guided portion, you will have approximately 30 minutes of free personal time to explore at your own pace and take final photographs.
After your visit, take the comfortable bus back down to Aguas Calientes — a 25 to 30-minute ride. You will have free time in town to explore, browse the artisan market, relax, or enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to the train station.
Departing at approximately 2:30 PM or 3:20 PM, depending on availability. The 1.5-hour return journey follows the same breathtaking route through the Andean landscape — equally beautiful in the afternoon light. Please note that if your Machu Picchu entry time is scheduled for later in the day, our team will adjust your return train ticket to 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM to allow sufficient time for your visit.
Arrival approximately 6:30 to 7:00 PM. At Ollantaytambo station, your private driver will be waiting with a sign bearing your name for the comfortable drive back to your hotel in Cusco. If you prefer to be dropped off in the Sacred Valley, please let us know in advance and we will be happy to accommodate your request.

- Pre-tour information the day before departure. You can visit our central Cusco office (open daily 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM) to receive all the details for your tour. If you are unable to visit, one of our agents will contact you directly to provide everything you need to know.
- Private return transport between your hotel in Cusco and Ollantaytambo train station. Comfortable tourist vehicle for the approximately 1 hour and 45-minute journey in each direction. Sacred Valley pickup and drop-off available upon request.
- Return train tickets: Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and back. Expedition (6:10 AM) or Voyager (6:40 AM) class on the outbound journey. Voyager or Expedition class for the return departure at 2:30 PM or 3:20 PM (adjusted if required based on your Machu Picchu entry time).
- Round-trip bus tickets: Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu entrance and return. 30-minute bus ride up and down the mountain road.
- Machu Picchu entrance ticket. Included in the tour price. We prioritize Circuit 1 or Circuit 2 (the most comprehensive and iconic circuits) based on real-time availability. If these are unavailable, we will secure Circuit 3 or Circuit 4.
- Professional certified bilingual guide (English and Spanish). Your expert guide accompanies you throughout the entire visit to Machu Picchu, providing a comprehensive 2.5-hour guided tour of the citadel, followed by 30 minutes of free time.
- Safety equipment. Your guide carries a first aid kit throughout the tour for any unexpected situations.

- Breakfast. Not included. The tour begins very early, so we recommend having a light snack at your hotel before pickup, or purchasing breakfast at the Ollantaytambo train station before departure.
- Lunch. Not included. After your Machu Picchu visit, you will have free time in Aguas Calientes to choose a restaurant and enjoy lunch at your own expense. The town offers a wide variety of local and international dining options for all preferences and budgets.
- Huayna Picchu Mountain entry (optional, $60 USD). Not included but available to add at the time of booking. Limited to 400 visitors daily — book well in advance.

- Vistadome train upgrade (optional, $45 USD one way). The standard train is Expedition or Voyager class. Upgrade to the Vistadome for panoramic windows, a glass roof, and onboard entertainment.

Acclimatize first. Spend at least 2 days in Cusco (3,400 m) before any high-altitude trek. Our guides carry emergency oxygen and are first-aid trained.
- Deposit Policy. A non-refundable deposit of $180 USD per person is required to confirm your reservation. This deposit is used immediately to purchase your Machu Picchu entrance ticket and train tickets, which cannot be refunded or modified once purchased, as they are issued by the Government of Peru.
- Cancellations. If you cancel your tour, the $180 USD deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances. Your Machu Picchu ticket and train tickets remain valid for the original date only. If you paid the full tour amount and subsequently cancel, you will receive a refund of the remaining balance after deducting the $180 USD deposit.
- Date Changes. You may change your tour date subject to availability. New Machu Picchu entrance tickets and train tickets will need to be purchased for the new date, and a new $180 USD deposit per person will be required.
