Your adventure begins at 10:00 AM with a comfortable hotel pickup in Cusco. A private tourist vehicle will take you on a scenic 1 hour and 45-minute drive through the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas to the Ollantaytambo train station — one of the most beautiful drives in the entire region, passing traditional Andean communities, terraced hillsides, and sweeping mountain views. At Ollantaytambo train station, you will board your Expedition or Voyager train (departing at approximately 12:36 or 12:55 PM) for the spectacular journey to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). The 1.5-hour train ride follows the winding Urubamba River as the landscape transforms from the high Andean valley into the lush, tropical cloud forest of the lower Sacred Valley — a journey that is breathtaking at every turn. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will check into your comfortable hotel and have free time to relax, explore the charming town, browse the artisan market, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this mountain village nestled at the foot of Machu Picchu. Day 2 begins at the most magical time to visit Machu Picchu. An early 5:00 AM breakfast at your hotel prepares you for the extraordinary morning ahead. After breakfast, you will make your way to the bus station to board one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu; buses begin departing from 5:30 AM and the 30-minute ride takes you up the winding mountain road to the main entrance gate, which opens at 6:00 AM. Entering Machu Picchu in the early morning is a genuinely special experience: the site is significantly quieter than later in the day, the morning mist often swirls dramatically around the ancient stone structures, and — on clear days — the first light of sunrise illuminates the citadel in a golden glow that most visitors never witness.
