Overview
Experience an unforgettable journey into the Manu Cultural Zone, one of the most biodiverse areas in the Peruvian Amazon. This 3-day Amazon tour from Cusco is perfect for travelers who want to explore the cloud forest, navigate jungle rivers, observe incredible wildlife, and enjoy a true connection with nature — a short but genuinely complete Amazon adventure.
During this adventure, you will travel from Cusco through the Andean highlands and the magical cloud forest, then continue by boat into the jungle. Along the way, you may see the famous Cock-of-the-Rock (Peru's national bird), monkeys, parrots, capybaras, reptiles, and many other species in their natural habitat. If you are looking for an authentic Amazon rainforest tour, this is one of the best short jungle experiences in Peru.
The highlights include a guided walk through the extraordinary cloud forest, a scenic boat journey along the Alto Madre de Dios River, the tranquil Machuwasi Lake explored by traditional catamaran raft, and the spectacular parrot clay lick, where several species of green parrots gather on a mineral-rich clay wall at dawn in one of the most colorful natural spectacles in the Amazon.
Every detail of this tour is fully managed by our team — from all transportation and comfortable jungle lodge accommodation to meals, professional naturalist guiding, entrance fees, and rubber boots — ensuring a completely seamless, safe, and genuinely unforgettable three-day Amazon experience.

Day-by-day itinerary
3 days · what you'll do each day
Your adventure begins with a hotel pickup in Cusco between 5:30 and 6:00 AM. Traveling by comfortable private transport, you will descend from the high Andes through multiple ecological zones, stopping first at the Chullpas de Ninamarca — ancient pre-Inca funerary towers perched high above the valley — before continuing to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo. From there, you reach the Acjanaco Pass (4,000 m), the official gateway to the Manu National Park region, where the landscape transforms dramatically as you descend into the lush cloud forest — home to orchids, heliconias, ferns, and fascinating wildlife. This is one of the best places on the route to look for the magnificent Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Peru's national bird) and, with some luck, the elusive Spectacled Bear. By late afternoon, you will arrive at Pilcopata Lodge, where you will spend the night in comfortable accommodation with private rooms, bathrooms, and hot showers.
After breakfast, you continue by bus to the port of Atalaya, where you board a motorized boat and travel along the Alto Madre de Dios River. During the ride, keep your eyes open for birds, monkeys, and other jungle wildlife on the riverbanks. You will arrive at the Paititi Lodge — your jungle base for the night — where lunch is served before you head to the beautiful Machuwasi Lake. Here you explore the calm waters on a traditional catamaran raft, one of the best places to observe Amazon wildlife including the prehistoric-looking Hoatzin bird, several species of monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, insects, and sometimes even capybaras. In the evening, you may join an optional night walk to discover the sounds and creatures of the nocturnal jungle — frogs, insects, and nocturnal species rarely seen during the day.
Very early in the morning, you travel by boat to the parrot clay lick, where you can witness one of the most colorful natural spectacles in the Amazon: several species of green parrots gathering on the mineral-rich clay wall in a memorable wildlife experience. After breakfast at the lodge, you begin your return journey by boat to Atalaya and then continue by private transport back to Cusco, passing once again through Pilcopata and the beautiful cloud forest, with arrival in Cusco expected between 6:30 and 7:00 PM.
