Itinerary
your day, hour by hour
9:00 AM. Your Cusco City Tour begins at our meeting point in Plaza Regocijo, in the heart of Cusco's historic center. Your professional bilingual guide welcomes you, gives a brief introduction to the day's itinerary, and leads you on foot toward the first stop of the morning.
Around 9:15 to 10:15 AM. Your first destination is the magnificent Qorikancha, widely regarded as the most sacred and important temple in the entire Inca Empire. Once entirely covered in sheets of pure gold, it was the spiritual center of Tawantinsuyu. After the Spanish conquest, the colonial Church and Convent of Santo Domingo was built directly on top of the original Inca foundations, creating one of the most striking architectural contrasts in all of South America.
Around 10:20 to 10:35 AM. A short drive by comfortable tourist vehicle up to the hilltop fortress of Sacsayhuaman, located just above the city at approximately 3,700 m above sea level.
Around 10:40 AM to 12:30 PM. One of the most awe-inspiring Inca sites in all of Peru, Sacsayhuaman features enormous zigzagging stone walls built from perfectly fitted stones weighing up to 300 tons each, all without mortar, wheels, or iron tools. Your guide walks you through the complex, sharing insights into the construction techniques, strategic function, and ceremonial significance of the site. From the upper terraces you enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the entire city of Cusco and the surrounding Andean highlands.
Around 12:45 to 1:15 PM. Your guide leads you on a scenic walk through Cusco's cobblestone streets to the magnificent Plaza de Armas, the beating heart of the city, surrounded by the grand Cathedral of Cusco and the Church of La Compania de Jesus, both built in Spanish Baroque style on the foundations of original Inca palaces.
Around 1:15 to 2:00 PM. After the guided visit to the Plaza de Armas you have some free time to explore the historic center at your own pace, browse the local artisan markets, or enjoy a coffee or lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants around the square. The tour concludes at approximately 2:00 PM, leaving the rest of your afternoon free. Times are approximate and may vary depending on group pace and site conditions.
