Two gateways to the jungle
Both are lowland rainforest reached from Cusco, but the way in and the feel are different. Manu is remoter and wilder, reached overland through cloud forest; Tambopata is quicker to reach via Puerto Maldonado and easier for a short trip.

Best time to go
The jungle is warm and humid all year. The drier months (May–October) mean easier trails and better wildlife along riverbanks; the wetter months are lush and green with fuller rivers. There's no bad time — just different.
What to bring
- Strong insect repellent and long, light sleeves
- Lightweight quick-dry clothing in neutral colours
- A rain poncho and a dry-bag for electronics
- Binoculars and a headlamp
- Any personal medication and sunscreen
