Your adventure begins at 6:30 AM from our Cusco office, where you board a comfortable tourist vehicle for a scenic 5-hour drive to Santa Teresa, passing through a succession of stunning Andean ecosystems — open highland plains, dramatic mountain valleys, and lush cloud forest landscapes. Upon arrival in Santa Teresa at approximately 1:00 PM, your guide will take you to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch. After lunch, you board local transport for a 30-minute ride to Lucmabamba, where one of the most thrilling highlights of the entire trek awaits — the Salkantay Zipline, Cusco's longest zipline system, featuring 5 cables stretching from mountain to mountain (each between 700 m and 1 km long) plus a heart-pounding 300-meter Tibetan bridge suspended nearly 500 meters above the valley floor. Professionally operated and completely safe, the zipline lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Afterward, you travel by local transport for approximately 30 minutes to the famous Cocalmayo Hot Springs in Santa Teresa, where you will have 2 hours to relax and rejuvenate in the soothing natural thermal pools surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. A 45-minute drive then brings you to the exclusive Star Domes of Lucmabamba — your extraordinary accommodation for tonight. These stunning panoramic crystal glass domes, nestled amid the natural beauty of the Santa Teresa Valley, offer one of the most unique and magical overnight experiences available on any trekking route in Peru — falling asleep under a canopy of Andean stars through a glass ceiling, surrounded by the sounds of the cloud forest.

The wake-up call is at 5:30 AM, with breakfast served at 6:00 AM — a fresh and energizing start to the most historically rich and physically rewarding day of the trek. Before setting off on the trail, you will visit a local family for an immersive coffee tour — one of the most authentic cultural experiences in the Cusco region. Lucmabamba is renowned for producing some of the finest coffee in all of Peru, and during this 30 to 45-minute guided experience you will learn about the entire process from cultivation and harvesting to roasting and brewing, and enjoy a freshly prepared cup of the region's signature artisan coffee directly from the producers. After the coffee tour, the main trekking section begins — a 3-hour ascent along a beautifully preserved 12-kilometer section of the original Inca Trail to the archaeological site of Llactapata (2,700 m). This ancient pathway winds through lush cloud forest, past dramatic valley views, and through an atmosphere of extraordinary historical significance. Upon reaching Llactapata, you will be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking and rarely experienced panoramic views of Machu Picchu — a perspective that most visitors to the citadel never see, with Machu Picchu, Waynapicchu, and the surrounding mountains spread before you. Your guide will bring the history, archaeology, and cultural significance of the Llactapata ruins to life as you explore. After exploring the ruins, the descent begins — a 2-hour hike down to the Hidroeléctrica hydroelectric station (steep in sections, where trekking poles are particularly helpful), where a well-earned lunch awaits at a local restaurant. After lunch and a short rest, the final section begins — a 3-hour mostly flat walk along the scenic railway tracks from Hidroeléctrica to the town of Aguas Calientes, with glimpses of Machu Picchu beginning to appear through the valley as you approach. Upon arrival, your guide will escort you to your hotel, where you can shower and rest; dinner is served at approximately 7:00 PM at a local restaurant, followed by a final briefing for Day 3.

The final day of your adventure is dedicated entirely to Machu Picchu — the legendary Inca citadel, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and the crowning achievement of your 3-day Llactapata adventure. There are two ways to reach the main entrance from Aguas Calientes. On foot (approx. 1.5 hours): a 30-minute flat walk from your hotel to the Puente Ruinas checkpoint, followed by a 1-hour uphill climb of approximately 1,700 steps — if your ticket is for 6:00 AM, begin walking at 4:30 AM after breakfast. By shuttle bus (approx. 30 minutes): buses depart from 5:30 AM every 5–10 minutes, with tickets at $12 USD one way. Once inside, you will join your professional bilingual guide for a 2-hour guided tour of the citadel, following the circuit assigned to your entrance ticket, bringing the history, architecture, astronomy, and sacred significance of Machu Picchu to life. After the guided tour, you will have 30 minutes of free personal time to explore. Optional add-on hikes require a separate ticket: Huayna Picchu Mountain ($60 USD), the iconic peak above Machu Picchu (limited to 400 daily visitors, round trip 2–2.5 hours), or Machu Picchu Mountain ($60 USD), with panoramic views at 3,080 m (round trip 3–3.5 hours). For the return to Cusco you have two options. By train (recommended): return to Aguas Calientes on foot (1.5 hrs) or by bus ($12 USD), board the train to Ollantaytambo (1.5-hour journey), then continue by tourist vehicle to Cusco (2 hours); trains typically depart between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM, with estimated arrival in Cusco at 7:00–8:00 PM. By car via Hidroeléctrica: hike from Machu Picchu to Hidroeléctrica (approx. 3 hours — begin no later than 11:00 AM), arrive by 2:30 PM to catch the 3:00 PM vehicle to Cusco (drive time 5–6 hours, estimated arrival 10:00–10:30 PM). The car return is only viable if your Machu Picchu entry time is between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
